Donating makes a meaningful difference in peoples lives. At Stitching Generations Together we're dedicated in providing and supporting our elders in the community. Being a nonprofit, especially in our early stages, we experience limitations block our desired effects in truly meeting their needs due to a lack of physical resources and financial support. With donation drives, a large group of people come together to make a change, small individual donations that weaves itself into a united generous force. Hosting a donation drive for the elderly is a very honorable thing to do.
Whether its a small drive of 7 participants donating blankets for seniors in winter, a faith group collecting food to make food boxes and donating it to a nursing home, or a school hosting an arts and crafts drive. These gestures of kindness uplifts our aged adults.
Once you hear back from our fundraising director, start creating your team. Reach out to family and friends who will aid you in creating your drive. Organize roles to share responsibility.
Choose a location where you can host your drive: at a school, community center, faith building, online platform, etc. Ask for permission first before starting your drive. Determine how long your drive will last, we recommend at least a week. Arrange preparations for pickup and delivery if applicable. For where the items will be sent, look to nursing homes in need near you. Make sure they're aware of your drive before bringing the items to them. We recommend asking them what they need!
Spread the word on online platforms, flyers, word-of-mouth to reach a wider audience. Don't forget to tag us on social media! Clearly state what items it is you need for your drive. Provide incentives to get people to join such as volunteer service hours if they donate!
We recommend you doing an afterparty for you and your team to reward yourselves for hosting a donation drive!
